Academic Coach Job Description

📍 State College, PA

Tierney Education LLC is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Academic Coaches for the Spring 2026 semester. Our Academic Coaches play a vital role in helping students strengthen their academic skills, build executive functioning strategies, and develop long-term habits for success.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meeting one-on-one with students for 45-minute weekly coaching sessions.

  • Supporting students with organization, time management, study skills, and accountability.

  • Sending monthly email updates to parents about student progress.

  • Documenting each session and submitting reflections within 24 hours using the provided form.

  • Communicating regularly with the Tierney Education team regarding student growth and challenges.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 hours of availability per week.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.

  • Ability to complete tasks and submit documentation in a timely manner.

  • Consistent and professional communication with Tierney Education administration via text and/or email.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in tutoring, coaching, or mentoring.

  • Knowledge of research-based study strategies and learning science.

  • Familiarity with Penn State courses and student culture.

  • Ability to conduct sessions virtually when needed.

Pay:

  • Peer Coaches (undergraduate students): $50 per hour 

  • Professional Coaches (graduate degree holders or equivalent experience): $80 per hour

Training:

  • Coaches will receive upfront training and ongoing support from the Director of Academic Coaching, Kimberly Tierney.

  • Coaches will be provided with a comprehensive coaching handbook and resources.
