SAT TUTORING

Are you a student looking to crush the SAT this year or improve your existing score? With Tierney Education’s SAT Prep, you’ll have the chance to cover every topic with in-person instruction and support right up until your SAT. As one of our students, you’ll receive access to Acely’s online, personalized study plan for three full months, allowing you to practice even after the sessions end!

  • Learn the material in a supportive, one on one environment. We specialize in prepping students within ten weeks, giving them plenty of time to get tutoring in over the summer. Before starting, all students will come in for a diagnostic test to help build their study plan.

  • In addition to live instruction at the Tierney Education Learning Center in Downtown State College, you’ll have 3-month access to Acely’s online test prep to continue your personalized study plan even after the program ends. (https://acely.com/)

  • Gain test-day skills by taking two full-length SAT practice exams. After, you’ll get a report with your projected score and a personalized study plan. These exams will be given in the Tierney Education Learning Center under a “Test Day Environment”, so you can get used to everything before the real Test Day.

James Tierney

James is the founder of Tierney Education and a former Penn State economics professor who brings over 15 years of teaching experience to the classroom. He specializes in helping students build strong math foundations, improve problem-solving skills, and approach the SAT with confidence. Whether you're aiming for major improvement or pushing toward a top score, James is committed to helping you get there.

Julianna Herriott

Julianna is the Tutoring Program Manager at Tierney Education and has her B.A. and M.A. from Penn State in English. Julianna has over four years of tutoring experience through her role as a Coordinator at Penn State’s Writing Center, ensuring she’s ready to help students at any stage to ensure they can approach the SAT with confidence and a strong understanding of the concepts they need to succeed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! We offer both math and reading and writing tutoring for the SAT. When you come in for your diagnostic and consultation, we can figure out exactly which sections you want to work on!

  • Most students meet with a tutor twice a week, for one hour each if they are receiving tutoring for both sections of the SAT.

    However, we are very flexible and happy to find a schedule that works for you!

  • During or prior to the first week of the program, you’ll be invited to take a Diagnostic Test which will show you an estimated score and can be your baseline as you continue through the program!

  • You can begin preparing for the SAT anytime! Whether you are a Freshman or Sophomore looking to get a head start, a Junior taking the August or September SAT, or a Senior looking to improve your score before applications, we’re ready to help get you where you want to be!

  • Yes! We offer private, one on one help for the SAT, ACT, and other college entry exams!
