Tutoring Program Manager
📍 State College, PA
Tierney Education is a professional academic coaching and tutoring company serving Penn State students and families. We believe learning is hard, and we don’t take shortcuts. Instead, we help students build lasting habits that lead to success in college and beyond.
We are looking for a full-time Tutoring Program Manager to lead our tutoring program. This role is part program leadership, part relationship management, and part hands-on education. About 25 hours each week are dedicated to administration, tutor management, and family communication (covered by base salary). Another ~15 hours each week are spent in revenue-generating work — tutoring, coaching, leading review sessions, or supporting new academic programs (paid hourly on top of base salary).
If you’re passionate about education, love building relationships with families, and thrive in a flexible, entrepreneurial environment, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
Program Leadership (~25 hrs/week, base salary)
Be the primary point of contact for parents and tutors — building trust, answering questions, and providing reassurance.
Recruit, onboard, and train new tutors for high-demand courses.
Check in with tutors regularly to ensure they feel supported, accountable, and aligned with Tierney Education’s standards.
Review tutor reflection forms, observe sessions when needed, and uphold the quality of the tutoring program.
Hold parent consultations, providing updates and guidance to ensure expectations are met.
Track tutoring hours, course demand, and student enrollments; provide updates on program growth.
Identify gaps in course coverage and recruit tutors accordingly.
Build relationships in the community — with schools, student groups, and other partners — to expand Tierney Education’s reach.
Communicate tutoring program updates to the Public Relations Director for social media and outreach.
Report directly to the CEO & Founder with program performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Tutoring, Coaching & Program Delivery (up to 15 hrs/week, additional pay)
Provide tutoring or academic coaching in your subject areas of expertise.
Cover tutoring needs during busy times (e.g., midterms, finals).
Lead or assist with group programs such as exam reviews or weekly review sessions.
Explore opportunities for online courses or new academic offerings.
Work Location & Schedule
This position is based in State College, PA.
Must be available for both in-person and virtual tutoring sessions with students.
Expected to be in the Tierney Education office at least 2 days per week for meetings, tutoring, and team collaboration.
Administrative responsibilities may be completed remotely.
Evening and weekend availability may be required during peak academic times (e.g., midterms, finals).
Who You Are
Warm & relational — Parents trust you right away; tutors see you as a mentor.
Organized & proactive — You don’t just put out fires, you prevent them.
Passionate about education — You understand that students need different supports and are committed to helping them succeed.
