RJ Shontz

Math & Statistics Tutor

RJ Shontz is a fourth-year mathematics major with a focus in systems analysis and a minor in statistics at Penn State. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his passion for numbers and problem-solving has driven him to pursue a career in mathematics. Last summer, he interned as a finance intern in Dublin, Ireland, with Applegreen, gaining valuable hands-on experience while exploring a new culture. This past summer, he worked as a Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis intern with Thermo Fisher Scientific in Boston, MA, where he built on his finance and analytical skills in a corporate business environment.

RJ loves traveling and has now visited ten different countries, with plans to see even more of the world. In high school, he was an active member of the cross-country and track teams, where he developed discipline and perseverance, qualities that continue to guide him through his college years. At Penn State, he is involved in Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity.

Outside of academics, RJ enjoys playing pickleball, hiking, and dining out with friends. These experiences have shaped who he is today, and he is excited to see where they will take him in the future. RJ is proud to be a part of the Tierney Education team and is eager to help students understand mathematics.

Random Fact: He can cook hibachi.
