Whether you’re an undergraduate student looking for real-world experience or a recent graduate on the job hunt, searching for your next role can be a daunting task - but, there are sites out there to lighten the load. After you’ve updated your resume, make sure to check out these sites and follow these tips to help you stand out above the rest.

LinkedIn

In addition to being a place to share your professional updates and accomplishments, LinkedIn has become a destination for recruiters and companies that are looking to fill various positions. By utilizing the Jobs tab, you can search by title, company, or even just some keywords that might help the algorithm find the right fit for you. You’ll also be shown jobs based on your profile, preferences, and activity (previous applications, searches, and saves).

LinkedIn makes it easy to save jobs if you’re in a rush, and some companies utilize “easy apply” that only requires a few questions (instead of filling out pages and pages of applications). You can also view jobs available when visiting profiles for your favorite brands and organizations.

Tip: Before you apply, make sure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date and has some recent posts to show that you’re active on the platform. You can also add the “Open to Work” sticker to your profile image.

Indeed

Indeed is THE place for job hunting and is incredibly user-friendly. Once you’ve entered in a job title you’d like to search, you can select filters including pay, remote/in-person, distance, job type (part-time, full-time, internship, etc), experience level, skill, and by the date it was posted. From there, you can apply on the spot, save jobs, or give them a thumbs down (so that job and those similar won’t be presented to you).

Tip: Once you’ve filled out your Indeed profile, it will begin to alert you (via email or the app) when it thinks jobs you’re good for come up. You may want to visit the Notifications tab and change the settings so you’re not inundated.

ZipRecruiter

While not as popular as LinkedIn or Indeed, ZipRecruiter is another great tool to look for various roles. You can search by title and by location, and then go further to include distance, date the job was posted, salary, job type, and experience level. Just like the others, ZipRecruiter also has a save function and a one-click apply function.

Tip: Try various titles in your search. Not everything is one-title–fits-all!

Nittany Lion Careers

If you are a current Penn State undergrad or grad student, this is a great place to start your search for internships. In addition to the robust search function, you can also keep track of interviews for on-campus jobs, see relevant events (like career-related workshops), and check out roles that others in your major are interested in.

Tip: If you have a tough time finding a nice/quiet spot for an online interview, you can book a room at the Career Services Center.

Industry-Specific Sites

In addition to the broader job searching sites above, there are plenty of portals out there for specific fields and industries.
