Math & Engineering Tutor

Alex An is a Ph.D.-trained educator and researcher with extensive experience in mathematics, statistics, and analytical problem-solving. He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, where he also completed a dual title in Operations Research and a graduate minor in Statistics. Alex holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, along with minors in Statistics and Computer Science from University of Minnesota. Alex is passionate about helping students develop not only academic skills but also confidence and independence in their learning. Throughout his academic career, Alex has served as a teaching assistant and tutor at multiple universities, including Penn State, University of Minnesota, and the University of Iowa. He has taught and supported courses such as algebra, calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, regression analysis, design of experiments, and engineering analytics, working with both small groups and large classes of over 100 students. Alex’s tutoring approach focuses on building strong conceptual foundations while guiding students through practical problem-solving techniques. He is known for his patience, clear communication, and ability to break down complex topics into manageable steps. Whether helping students prepare for exams, complete homework, or gain confidence in math and statistics, Alex tailors each session to meet individual learning needs.
